I was at Frostbite for the 3rd year in a row. It was fun and very relaxed. This comp had a slightly different format than the standard with a 4 hour redpoint and top 7 scores being counted.
That cold that I was hoping would stand down? No such luck. It settled in to stay. I sucked it up for the comp and hoped no one would notice/mind my constant sniffling and raspy voice. (If they did, they were too kind to say anything.) Despite feeling cruddy, I enjoyed climbing and even had a few solid climbs. The inability to breathe fully definitely affected my stamina and I was feeling winded much of the time.
About halfway through the comp, I went for a small, incut flake hold with my left hand and misjudged it slightly. Three fingers made it in, but my pinky crumpled as it hit hold instead of slipping into the flake. The resulting soreness reduced the effectiveness of my grip on that hand for the rest of the comp. I have my healthy fingers crossed that there is no serious damage done, just bruising.
Now it is time to fight this cold. Normally I don’t handle sitting around and watching TV very well, but the Olympics are on right now. Perfect excuse to lay around and watch every single event. Score!
