Weekend Preview: May 31 – June 1

If you haven’t heard what’s going on this weekend, then you obviously are living under a rock instead of climbing on them, because the IFSC Bouldering World Cup Series comes to North American soil, right here in the Northeast! That’s right, the world’s best boulderers will be competing at Gravity Climbing Gym in Hamilton, ON, just outside Toronto. There are still a few tickets available at the door, so don’t miss out on the action.

Dominion Riverrock Boulder Comp – Richmond, VA
Climbing: Qual #1: Fri 6:45pm – 8:45pm, Qual #2: Sat 12:15pm – 2:15pm, Semis: Sat 4:15pm, Finals: Sat 7:30pm

Sunday, May 18, 2014

Dominion Riverrock Speed Boulder Comp – Richmond, VA
Climbing: Quals: 12:00pm – 2:00pm, Finals: 4:00pm

This outdoor festival of music, outdoor sports, and so much more actually has two bouldering comps. The first is a “regular” bouldering comp, except that there is nothing regular about it. The walls are piecemeal, instead of continuous, (volumes on scaffolding) and were designed specifically for this annual event. There are two qualification rounds each with only 1 problem, then semis and then finals. The other comp is on the same walls and is speed bouldering. Spectating should be amazing at these two events. Be prepared to see some crazy climbing!

I will be at Dominion Riverrock this year. I’m really looking forward to participating and seeing Richmond (never been before). The style of climbing does not play to my strengths, but I’m ready to push past my comfort zone and tackle a new challenge. Plus those walls…I need to see those in person!

Saturday, May 17 – Monday, May 19, 2014

Route/Speed National – Allez Up, Montreal, QC
Climbing: All day Sat & Sun, Mon AM

This comp will crown the nationals champions of speed & difficulty climbing in Canada.
