It seems as though speed climbing is often an afterthought in competition. An extra event added on to a comp focusing on something else, usually sport/difficulty climbing. A side venture for those climbers training to excel at another discipline. Many gyms, even those being currently built, are not equipped to offer speed climbing. This can limit how many people get the opportunity to try it out. So this weeks poll asks, have you tried it?

SCS Regionals – New England West (502) – Evolution Rock & Fitness, Concord, NH
Climbing: Boys Sport 10:15am, Boys Speed ~1:00pm, Girls Sport 3:15pm, Girls Speed ~5:30pm
SCS Regionals – New England East (503) – Central Rock Gym, Glastonbury, CT
Climbing: Girls Sport 9:15am, Girls Speed ~12:00pm, Boys Sport 2:15pm, Boys Speed ~5:00pm
SCS Regionals – Capital (501)– Earth Treks, Rockville, MD
Climbing: Sport: 10:00am – 2:00pm, Speed: 11:30am
Registration has closed for Regionals, but you can still go watch some amazing climbing or volunteer to help run the event at the gym closest to you! The categories at all Regionals are the standard USAC youth categories of A, B, C, D & Jr. Please check with the host gym for more specific start times for each category/gender/discipline.

Climbing: 5:30pm – 8:30pm
This event is on the current calendar for CRG, but with no other info, I’m not sure if it is happening.
